Mimbres Press of Western New Mexico University will launch Our Search for Meaning: A Humanistic Anthology on Friday February 25th, 6-7 p.m. at WNMU’s Miller Library. This book, which is used on WNMU’s Applied Liberal Arts and Sciences (ALAS) course, examines the intellectual history of western civilization within the context of four questions: What is truth? What is justice? What does it mean to be human? What is the good life? The book consists of excerpts from classic works ranging from The Epic of Gilgamesh to George Orwell’s 1984, alongside short essays contextualizing these works, and didactic material designed to get students discussing the four questions.

The book is co-authored by Dr.s Katherine Oubre and Phillip Schoenberg, with an introduction by Dr. Jack Crocker. Oubre is the Chair of the Humanities Department at WNMU, while Schoenberg is Assistant Professor of Philosophy and English. Crocker is Vice President for Academic Affairs.

At the launch, the authors will introduce the book, and WNMU students from the ALAS class will read and perform excerpts from classic works. The launch will be followed by complimentary food and drink. This event is free and open to the public and will also be broadcast via this Zoom link:  https://wnmu.zoom.us/j/82175664398.
